Le Chant Des Bayous

Une Sortie A Minuit

The night be clear, all calm about

My feet did trod , me had no doubt

That I might reach le bateau o mine

To float her fast and feel sublime

The moon be full and oh so bright

It did mos shine tru out dis night

The waters still, no breeze to stir

Bayou mine be dere for her

Adelaide do left me, that fo sure

My heart do break, there be no cure

I comes alone by heya to weep

To do reminisce and thoughts to keep

Da frogs do croak and and crickets make tune

An owl does coo to make me swoon

A gator’s eyes, so big and mystère

Make me take heed of da things I do fear

Da moss from da trees do pass over me

As I float mongst watta lillies I see

A tortoise do snap at ma paddle in jest

Da big heron bird flaps away to protest

A bug does fly and flickers da light

It joins with da others to make things so bright

I den slaps my neck, a mosquito to kill

And then another, it be no thrill

So da times like dis that make me sad

I miss her so much to make me glad

But she move on to make memories fade

My one and only, my sweet Adelaide
